The 22nd counting of wintering birds of prey in Hungary, carried out in January 2025 by the BirdLife Hungary organization (MME), showed 18,486 individuals belonging to 17 species. There were 8 specimens of the greater spotted eagle (in 2024 – also 8). It was also the 8th regional inventory for the Pannonian Basin, in which ornithologists from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania participated; 21,352 birds (in 2024 – 21,973) of 17 species were observed, including 9 greater spotted eagles (in 2024 – 10).
The study in the Great Hungarian Plain was carried out as part of the LIFE Saker Roads project.
