In 2025, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Ruse (RIEW) and the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) conducted a joint operation within the „Ludogorie” protected area (BG0002062) near the village of Belovets, in the Municipality of Kubrat, to protect wild birds. The inspection aimed to monitor hunting activities in the context of protecting the greater spotted eagle (Clanga clanga) along its migration routes and in its wintering grounds. The operation was carried out in compliance with statutory regulations — specifically the Biological Diversity Act and the Hunting and Game Protection Act.
No hunting-related activities or violations of either act were detected on site. Furthermore, no activities causing habitat alterations within the Natura 2000 protected area were observed.
This joint inspection is part of the project „Above Borders: Conservation of the Greater Spotted Eagle in breeding, wintering, and migration areas” (LIFE22-NAT-PL-GESLIFAboveBorders), implemented by the BSPB. The international initiative aims to protect individuals of this species during periods of vulnerability and against threats posed by hunting activities. This action continues the long-standing practice of improving coordination between the Executive Forest Agency and the structures of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
